A Savannah native, Dr. Smurda is a graduate of Benedictine Military School. He is an honors graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in microbiology. Dr. Smurda attended the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and went on to complete residency training at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburge, Florida, where he was named “Resident Teacher of the Year” and “Resident of the Year,” and received the Award of Excellence in Laparoendoscopic Surgery by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopy.
He then entered private practice in Sandersville, Georgia. After fulfilling a Rural Georgia Scholarship, he began work in Albany in 2002.
Dr. Smurda is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He is active in several medical organizations, including the Medical Association of Georgia, the Southwest Georgia Physicians Association, the Georgia Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, the American Medical Association, the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine and the Medical Alliance of Dougherty County.
Dr. Smurda resides in Albany with his wife, Keli, and two sons, Dylan and Carson. His hobbies include fishing, golfing and running.
