About Labor

Certainly labor and childbirth pose numerous physical and emotional challenges to patients and their families. We will do our best to make sure you have the birth experience you desire and deserve. If you are interested in a birth that minimizes intervention, we will make every possible effort to accommodate your wishes. Of course, for patients who desire epidural and/or other types of anesthesia, we support their decision fully.

We will keep you informed of the status of you and your baby during the labor process. Nothing will be done without first explaining the intervention to you. We support the use of intermittent fetal monitoring during low risk labor. We encourage patients to walk and move about as they desire during labor.

We support the use of light foods during early labor for energy and comfort. We do not use "routine" labor preparations such as enemas, shaving or IV's unless the patient requests them or they become medically necessary. We encourage patients to labor and deliver in the position(s) most comfortable for them.

We do not use routine episiotomies, but rather use them on a very limited basis when medically indicated.
